I’ve done quite a bit of art and design over the years. Here is a small collection of recent or favorite pieces.

Story’s Resolution

I once entered a piece into ArtPrize. (Actually, I did it twice). The second piece was a collage of illustrations that I placed around this tiefling character, Story. I called the piece “Life As Story”.
Failure is difficult. I used this piece as a one last hurrah to say goodbye to professional art. In it are some returning elements – a sky scene over the water, Gilbert Wolfgang from Haunts of Loarne (seen here with their back turned), a curing elixir, a d20, and Story himself. I included flowers to indicate trust and new beginnings.

Lansing Placemaking Proposal

My hometown put out a call for art to decorate their very own set of letters spelling out the city name. When I got the call, I knew right away I wanted to play with the “Lanstronaut” theme. The QD moon is a little cheeky. (The moon is made of cheese!)

Team JAG Mascot

My team at Vertafore wanted a mascot, and I happen to specialize in those! How could I say no? Vertafore has a certain style for their corporate people art, so I played off of that when creating the Team JAG-uar.

Little Debbie’s Marketing Exercise

Let’s admit it – Little Debbie’s box designs look as if they haven’t been touched since the 90’s. Super detailed full color logo? Busy boxes with no cohesive theme? I wanted to take a crack at modifying some of my favorites into looking more modern. Let me know what you think!

(Scene from Haunts of Loarne)

So I’m writing a novel called Haunts of Loarne. It’s an offshoot of a webcomic I used to run, but it’s going to have a huge overhaul. New plot , new characters, breath of fresh air! Even so, Alice is still going to teach Gilbert rune magic aboard the flying ship Bolton. Aldebaranne, Chris, and Yvanna look on.

Pixel

I’m part of a group at Vertafore called Dice, Decks, & D-Pads. It’s an interest group all about gaming! And they wanted a mascot too. So meet Pixel!

Holiday Newsletter 2023

In 2018, I decided to take up the hobby of creating a holiday newsletter just like my mom had. Each year, I used a different gimmick. One year, I used a papercraft cut-out Christmas tree with family photos as the ornaments! The year before we moved to a digital newsletter, I created a movie flyer for a totally bogus film.

Blue Howler Can & T Shirt Design

A local coffee shop, Blue Owl, released a cold brew can one year called “Blue Howler”. To go with it, they released a contest to see what the winning design would be for the can they would carry. I designed a can and managed to land in the top 3 entries as chosen by the staff. From there, I earned the chance to design a 3 color t shirt design, and to have Instagram and Facebook users vote on 1 of 3 designs. Ultimately, I didn’t make it to the winning spot, but I still think this is a neat accomplishment.

2016 Annual Franchise Meeting T Shirt

In 2016, BIGGBY COFFEE Home Office held an Annual Franchise Meeting, and every year that they held one of these conventions, special merch would be given out to the lucky barista and owner/operator attendees.

In this piece, you can see many different elements – baristas (one with a manual!), Orange Washington and Espresso Man (2 unofficial BIGGBY characters from different locations), a coffee bean, customers, and of course, Bob and Mike themselves.

I may be dying… (series)

…but at least I have you.

These paintings were based on photos I took while at the Fenner Nature Center. The theme inspiring the title is the plants sleeping during the winter and the leaves dying, but having solace in each other and other plant life.
